Bonefishing in the Turks and Caicos
The last time we took a trip together was to Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos and what a trip it turned out to be. Six of us friends got together and planned to go bonefishing, and since the Turks and Caicos is considered to be a Mecca for bonefishing we decided to go there.
We chartered three boats from a local company since Marilyn insisted that the natives really knew the waters well. Marilyn and Derrick went on one boat, Tony and Cherry on the next, and James and me on the last one. We decided to have a competition among us, and whoever got the smallest catch would have to buy dinner that night. All of us were of course accompanied by an expert captain who knew the ropes well.
All excited, we set out on our bonefishing expedition. The plan was to meet after a full-day bonefishing charter and exchange notes in the evening.
James and I were the first to get back in the evening. We were quite pleased with our catch, which our captain told us was pretty decent. We had to wait for the others to come in though. The next in were Marilyn and Derrick, who didn’t manage to get in a bonefish as large as ours. Gosh, weren’t we excited. We kept our fingers crossed hoping Tony and Cherry didn’t manage to better our catch.
We seemed to be waiting for a long time. Where were they? We really began to get worried. Should we inform the authorities or should we just go back to the hotel and wait for them. This was turning out to be a real mess. Our captain suggested we go back to the charter company and check if they had heard from them. It seemed to be good suggestion, we headed back to the company and who do we see there? Cherry and Tony were waiting for us there calmly sipping a cool drink.
Apparently five minutes out at sea, Cherry got seasick and they had to call off the entire trip.
